Enrollment in Essex County Public Schools District increased over previous year

The only school district in Essex County had rising enrollment in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

There were 1,163 students in Essex County Public Schools District, 0.6% more than the year before.

Enrollment in Essex County bucked the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 52.5% of them were male, and 47.5% were female.

Data also showed that most of the studets were Black, representing 54.8% of Essex County Public Schools District's total enrollment.

Essex County Public Schools District has a main office in Tappahannock and is the only school district within Essex County.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
