King George County New Courthouse Groundbreaking

King George County New Courthouse Groundbreaking

King George County is excited to be underway with the construction of the new King George County Courthouse. The county hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday, December 8, 2022, at the construction site located at Government Center Boulevard.

Local officials and county staff joined together for the groundbreaking ceremony for King George County’s new courthouse. Several officials spoke to commemorate the moment and look forward to the completion of new the courthouse. During welcoming remarks from Mr. Jeff Stonehill, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors stated, “The day has finally come, after many years. This project came out of need because we have outgrown our 100 plus year-old courthouse.   The vision was created and the diligent work of our courthouse committee, Tony Bell and staff of Moseley Architects, this impressive project was created that will meet the needs of the courts and the citizens of King George.”

The new courthouse will replace the county’s current courthouse that was built 100 years ago and no longer has the capacity for the modern practice of law.   Mr. Vic Mason, Clerk of the Circuit Court for King George County, stated at the groundbreaking ceremony, “The new courts building will give the citizens of King George a state of the art, user friendly facility that will provide a safe and secure workplace and environment for Judges, courts staff, security staff and the public.”

Moseley Architecture provided the architectural drawings for the new courthouse; construction will be completed by Branch Builds Construction. The courthouse has a targeted completion in the Spring of 2024.
