2023-24 School Year: What was most represented ethnicity in Charles City County districts?

Black students comprised the largest ethnic group in Charles City County districts during the 2023-24 school year, according to reports from the Virginia Department of Education.

Of the 530 students attending Charles City County district schools, 48.5% were Black. White made up the second largest ethnic group, comprising 29.2% of the student population.

In the previous school year, Black students were also the most common group in Charles City County districts, representing 46.4% of the student body.

In the 2023-24 school year, the total number of students enrolled in the county dropped 5.7% compared to the previous year.

The main offices of all districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with Charles City County.

As of November 2023, according to Public School Review, in the 2023-24 school year, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
