Collaborative Effort Aids in Restoring Deep Point Landing

11

Gloucester County issued the following announcement on Nov. 19

Thanks to a partnership between Gloucester County, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and the Virginia Department of Transportation, the roadway leading to Deep Point Boat Landing at Harcum has received much-needed repair. Construction was completed last week on the project, which returned it to a usable state.

VDOT provided the labor, equipment, and materials to stabilize the shoulders of the road, resurface it and help with drainage. The access point is owned and managed by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources.

“We are so grateful that VDOT and DWR came together to form this long-awaited solution to make Deep Point more usable for the public,” said Katey Legg, Gloucester’s Director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. “We know how important these water access points are to many of our citizens to be able to enjoy recreational boating and fishing.”

The popular landing is utilized by boaters and anglers who enjoy access to the Piankatank River and Chesapeake Bay. There is also an area for families to enjoy a picnic lunch by the water.
