Standing Against Critical Race Theory
This past week Virginia parents in Loudon County were not only silenced, but had the police called on them to be arrested for speaking out against the indoctrination by Critical Race Theory in our education system.
While questioning Education Secretary Miguel Cardona during a House Education and Labor Committee hearing, I was called ‘RACIST’ by a committee colleague for defending Virginia’s parents who are fighting back against this racist, Left-wing ideology. This comment during this congressional hearing is indicative of the division and hate that this close-minded ideology promotes. My Republican colleagues on the House Education and Labor Committee sent a letter to the committee’s chairman, Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA) shortly after the hearing requesting an apology for this disrespectful, out-of-order remark.
Teaching America’s children to hate one another based on the color of their skin is deeply divisive and discriminatory in and of itself. Standing against the factually bankrupt curriculum of Critical Race Theory is critically important for our children’s future. We must stand strong to preserve the values and principles of freedom and opportunity this nation was founded on – not promote anti-American propaganda that claims our country is fundamentally racist.

Exposing ‘Wokeness’ in Our Military
Recent efforts to transform our military into a social experiment severely compromise our military’s preparedness and operational needs. This is a clear danger to America’s national security. As policies in line with Critical Race Theory and other Leftist ideologies are forced into the institutions designed to maintain our safety, our military’s critical mission of readiness is deeply undermined. Our armed forces have and should continue to remain properly prepared war-fighting organizations which are unified through duty and united in mission purpose, rather than through the promotion of divisive, anti-American propaganda.
President Biden and members of his administration have even gone so far as to disparage the character of our military personnel, accusing our service members of being racists and white supremacists who need to be reprogrammed. In a House Budget Committee hearing this week, I questioned Vice Admiral Ronald A. Boxall and Under Secretary of Defense Michael J. McCord on whether American taxpayers are being forced to pay for Critical Race Theory training for members of our American military.
America should be training the best soldiers, shaping them to be strong, dominating, and determined in a combat zone. It is misguided and dangerous to push inherently divisive policies in line with “woke” culture throughout our military.

It’s Time to Censure Biden.
On Inauguration Day, President Biden took a constitutional oath to faithfully execute the laws of our country. Since taking office, the administration has failed to secure our Southern Border and enforce our immigration laws, as migrant crossings into the U.S. have reached their highest numbers in decades and arrests for murder at the border are up over 1,000 percent from last year. The Biden administration’s failures at our border are clearly putting American lives at risk. To hold President Biden accountable, I joined my colleague Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) this week in a resolution to censure President Biden for his lack of leadership. It’s time that this administration finally addresses this manufactured crisis at our Southern Border.

Protecting Taxpayer Dollars from Incentivizing Illegal Immigration
As if the Biden administration’s agenda was not already disturbing enough, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently issued a guidance stating that the agency is not requiring applicants to provide their social security number for their Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) applications. This guidance is an obvious incentive for illegal aliens to continue to cross our border and take advantage of the benefits intended for the American taxpayer.
While Vice President and ‘Border Czar’ Kamala Harris timidly asked illegal immigrants not to come to the U.S., the policy of the Biden administration welcomes illegal immigrants with open arms and encourages them to overrun our public housing system. During a House Budget Committee hearing this week, I asked the HUD Secretary if the agency was prioritizing illegal aliens over American citizens by instituting this policy. She struggled to provide a definitive answer to this question.
Illegal aliens should not be allowed to take advantage of taxpayer-funded benefits due to the Biden administration’s weak immigration policies.

Stop Paying People Not to Work!
The Biden Administration’s economic policies have produced fewer jobs in the first five months of this year than the Trump Administration produced in the last five months of 2020, even when the effects of COVID-19 and the government’s restrictions were far more widely and strenuously enforced.
Unfortunately, we currently have employers, businesses, and job creators literally competing with their government for employees; because of the $300 weekly enhanced federal unemployment benefit. Every business owner in my district tells me that this is an ongoing problem. People are being paid to stay home, and collecting enhanced unemployment, rather than report to work.
This week, I spoke on the House Floor during a special order on jobs and the state of the economy hosted by my colleague Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC). We need to fully re-open the economy, end all restrictions, and stop paying people to not work!

Passport Services Update
As your Representative in Congress, one of my top priorities is to help residents of Virginia’s 5th District navigate federal agencies and ensure you receive the government services and benefits you were promised.
My staff has been working diligently to assist those in need of expedited passports for their upcoming travel. With that in mind, I wanted to provide you with updated information that the National Passport Center recently shared with our office.
Processing times for passport applications, either new or renewal, will take 16 weeks for regular processing and 10 weeks for expedited processing. Our office is working to prioritize incoming requests by travel date to ensure that our constituents receive their passports in a timely manner.
The U.S. Department of State guidance recommends that to ensure you receive your passport in time for your travel date(s) that you plan ahead and apply early, 12 to 18 weeks in advance of your international travel date(s).
