78 9th-grade students enrolled in Mathews County schools in 2023-24 school year

There were 78 9th-grade students enrolled in Mathews County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 3.7% fewer than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Mathews High School was the only school that welcomed 9th-grade students in the county.

Within Mathews County schools, the largest number of students were found in 10th-grade, while pre-kindergarten had the least students.

Statewide, Mathews County ranked 123rd in enrollment numbers. It was ranked 121st the year before.

As of November 2023, according to Public Schools Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools nationwide.
