There were three American Indian students enrolled in Mathews County Public Schools District in the 2023-24 school year, 50% more than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Data showed that Mathews County Public Schools District welcomed 841 students during the 2023-24 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.4% of the student body to be the least represented ethnicity in the school.

Mathews County Public Schools District roughly covers schools within Mathews County and has a main office in Mathews.

Among the three schools in Mathews County Public Schools District, Thomas Hunter Middle School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2023-24 school year.
