King George County’s Ralph Bunche High School Roof Replacement
Members of the Ralph Bunche High School Advisory Committee joined together to commemorate and celebrate the first phase of restoration of the Ralph Bunche High School roof replacement. Funding for this project was received from a grant awarded by the National Park Service’s African American Civil Rights Grant Program. The preservation of the school is a critical component to the identity of our County's residents and Virginia as a turning point in the fight for equal educational opportunity and testament to how far we have come as a community, state, and nation.
Jermon Bushrod, King George High School graduate, and founder of the Visualize and Rize Foundation, was present and stated, "I am proud of the Community's progress on restoring Ralph Bunche High School and Visualize and Rize Foundation is honored to be a part of this historic project moving forward."
Also in attendance was Claudette Jordon, Ralph Bunche High School Alumni Association President, and committee member offered words of delight, "This is the beginning of a historical moment for the revitalization of Ralph Bunche High School; I am elated that the construction has begun and, more importantly, that our Alumni Association will be able to see the progress being made.
Cathy Binder, Shiloh District Supervisor, and committee member stated, "It’s a strong step in the right direction in bringing Ralph Bunche back online and transforming it into a vibrant community center for our residents and youth."
The roof construction is provided by Old Dominion Roofing and Construction from Richmond, VA.
