Community Resources for Financial Relief

The City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, in partnership with the United Way of Greater Charlottesville, provides financial relief for community members who are experiencing economic hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Community Resource Hotline is the central point for residents to call and be screened for eligibility for financial relief for rent, mortgage or utility bills. In FY22, the Hotline distributed $1,537,753.12 and has already distributed $ 974,831.04 in the first quarter of FY23.

As of November 1, the parameters in which residents can receive funding for rental/mortgage or utility assistance will be $1,000 per month for up to $3,000 per year. Residents with utility cut off notices may also receive assistance to prevent disconnections.

The purpose of this change is to align the City and County limits so that residents understand the availability of funds regardless of what locality they reside. Since the onset of the pandemic, the Pathways funds have been supplemented by CARES and ARPA dollars. Both localities aim to sustain this allotment of funding for as long as possible for as many residents as possible who need the support most.

The Community Resource Hotline number is 833-524-2904 and is available 9AM-5PM, Monday-Friday. The Spanish line number is 434-373-0930. Residents must provide documentation of eligibility which may include pay stubs, bank statements, or enrollment letters if the individual is receiving federal assistance. Landlord ledgers and utility bills for amounts owed are also required.
