There are several volunteer opportunities available for Gloucester residents interested in serving their community. Gloucester County is looking for citizens to serve on several local committees, as there are multiple vacancies and not enough people to fill them.
The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors regularly seeks citizens on these board-appointed groups that advise and assist the governing body with many aspects of County government.
Currently, there are openings for residents who wish to serve on the following board and commissions: Historical Committee (Petsworth and Ware District), Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee (Gloucester Point District), Library Board of Trustees (Abingdon District) and the Clean & Green Committee (countywide).
The Clean & Green Committee, which is relatively new, advises the Board of Supervisors on matters affecting the quality of the local environment. The Committee will research, analyze, and propose methods for Gloucester County to promote and implement science-based sustainable methods and practices within the County, including but not limited to current infrastructure, future development, green energy, litter prevention, solid waste management and recycling, beautification, and natural resource protection
If interested in becoming involved in local government and helping to serve the community, consider submitting your information to the Gloucester County Volunteer Board Bank, which provides members of the board of supervisors with the names and background information of interested citizens. To do so, visit www.gloucesterva.info (click on Board of Supervisors / Boards and Commissions); or call the County’s Community Engagement and Public Information office at 804-693-5730.
