The Farms of New Kent Water Storage Tank will be taken out of service for cleaning from February 27 to March 6. During this period, residents in several neighborhoods may experience slight changes in water pressure. The affected areas include The Groves, The Arbors, Viniterra, Brickshire, Bel Green, Oakmont Villas, Quinton Estates, Greenwood Estates, Kenwood Estates, Deerlake, Rochambeau Estates and Pomeroy Park.
Authorities are urging residents to conserve water and focus on fire prevention while the tank is offline. Any utility emergencies should be reported by calling 804-966-9678 or 804-966-9500 after hours.
New Kent County is also home to a single public school district that enrolled 3,536 students during the 2023-24 school year. This represented a 2.9% increase over the previous year’s enrollment of 3,436 students (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Among these schools, New Kent High School had the highest enrollment with 1,116 students (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home).
Demographic data shows that white students made up the largest group in county schools at 73.1%, totaling 2,584 students. Black students were the next largest group with 414 students or 11.7% of total enrollment (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). In early education programs during the same year, Quinton Elementary School had the most pre-kindergarten enrollments with 43 children—more than half of all pre-K students in the county (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). For kindergarteners, New Kent Elementary School led with an intake of 89 students or about one-third of all kindergartners in the district (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home).
