At approximately 10:46 a.m., the Charlottesville Police Department received a report of an active shooter on Walker Upper Elementary campus. It has since been confirmed that this call was a hoax. Walker Upper Elementary was placed on a lockdown and when officers arrived, they conducted a search and identified no unusual activity or threat. Families were then notified and CPD gave the all-clear for Walker Upper Elementary to resume their normal activity at 11:06 a.m. CPD officers will remain on campus for a short period of time to ensure that the school is completely secure.

Calling in a false report to the police is illegal; our officers are currently investigating this crime.

Especially after this week’s tragedy at UVA,  we understand the anxiety and stress these hoaxes cause our community. Please consider checking in with your child tonight. In addition to the counselors and other mental health professionals available at Walker Upper Elementary, families also have the option of using Care Solace, a service that helps people find and make appointments with mental health and substance use providers. This confidential service is free to CCS staff, students, and their families. Additionally, Region 10 also recommends the Regional Crisis Call Center, a free and confidential crisis intervention and prevention line: (434) 230-9704.
