ACR Statement on Ukraine Invasion and Resulting Humanitarian Crisis

American College of Radiology Association Pac issued the following announcement on March 4

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) joins all Americans in calling for an immediate end to fighting in Ukraine enabling medical providers to safely care for the sick and injured and humanitarian organizations to supply necessary aid.

As a first step, we encourage implementation of the “humanitarian corridors” that Ukraine and Russia agree are needed to deliver aid and help civilians exit besieged Ukrainian cities.

The International Atomic Energy Agency, (Ukrainian) State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate (SNRI) and other appropriate organizations should be allowed protected access to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant shelled by Russian forces, Ukraine’s many other nuclear reactors and the Chernobyl nuclear facility, to protect all in the region from an unnecessary nuclear crisis.

The ACR and its members stand ready to assist and support our radiologic colleagues and other medical providers in Ukraine as they seek to rebuild and renew access to their healthcare and social services systems.

Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this war. For those wishing to help the people of Ukraine, Charity Navigator  has shared a list of charities providing services in the region.
